It's Daryl, No Wait, It's Jim

Bob Graham had just finished introducing Daryl Jones as the "next Lt. Governor," when Jim Davis grabbed the microphone, to the surprise of Graham and Jones. Davis clearly intended to speak before Daryl Jones, not after.

"I'm not Daryl Jones,  but I sure wish I could fly one of those planes," Davis said to ease the weird moment. Davis then gave a mini-speech, while emphasizing that he and Jones are a team.

"Daryl Jones and I are running for governor and lt. governor to stand up for consumers, to stand up for homeowners. . .to end the domination of this Legislature by the insurance lobby."

"I've picked a man who has a backbone of steel to join me in providing the leadership, the backbone, to stand up to the special interests who are controlling this state capital of our lives."

When Daryl Jones got up, he seemed immediately at ease with the crowd. "Y'all look great," he said. "So do you!" a woman screamed. He told a story about how at 26, he got to meet then-gov. Bob Graham who had encouraged him into running for public office.

Half-way through the speech, Jones spotted his son Durel Jones, 20, a FSU junior, in the crowd whom he pulled him on the capitol steps and teased him about his rumpled dress shirt, "did you iron this shirt?" And then he continued on with his speech, saying he was proud to join the ticket.
