Hernando County's GOP godfather, Tom Hogan Sr., finally gets a shot at public office after 40 years of running the party behind the scenes.

Gov. Jeb Bush appointed Hogan, 74, on Friday to the county commission. Hogan replaces 31-year-old Rob Schenck, a wannabe state Rep., who resigned last month - without fulfilling his first term in public office - to focus on his race for the House seat now held by a term-limited Rep. Dave Russell, R-Brooksville.
