Jeb: "Crist's life is organized around his personal ambition"

Cut from our Jeb Bush interview in today's Tampa Bay Times (done before Crist's Obama endorsement) was an exchange in which we asked him if he thought his successors, Charlie Crist and Rick Scott, had less of a commitment to education reform than he does and did:

Jeb Bush:

It seems pretty clear that our current governor, our last governor don't seem to have the same commitment to education reform as you did.
A: ...Let's face it, Gov. Crist's life is organized around his personal ambition and when it became clear that his personal ambition needed to make an adjustment of where he stood, he appeared to abandon some of the reform ideas. Bu up til then he was very supportive, not necessarily proactively pushing additional items, but he was supportive. Rick Scott I think has a more genuine interest in the subject and has been supportive.
Q: When Scott says, 'We're going to stop teaching to the test' - I don't know what that means, but does that give you pause?
A: I don't know either, because that's not what should be done now. I agree with that. Teaching to the standards is the way to go and that's what great teachers do. If we have clear expectations of what kids are to learn and a teacher instills those concepts to them through great teaching, then no amount of teaching to the test matters. If you learn the standards the test only measures what youve mastered.
Q: How often do you talk to him.
A: Not a lot. Not often
