Gov. Jeb Bush made the same leap Wednesday many have when told that Democrat Jim Davis is going to name his running mate Thursday morning in Broward County.

"When does Congressman Davis pick?" Bush asked reporters when told there was a possibility four lawyers could make up the two-party gubernatorial ticket. "Where's he going to do it?" Bush asked. Broward, reporters said.

"Oh, Chris Smith, eh? I like Chris," said Bush. The governor, however, declined to comment on the potential for two, two-attorney tickets, other than to burst out laughing.

On other trivial matters: Bush is currently reading The Zero Game, the novel by Brad Meltzer that will be highlighted Thursday in Tampa as his pick for this year's Read Together Florida book. Up soon on his list is the new biography of the late LeRoy Collins by the retired St. Petersburg Times editorial board member Martin Dyckman, whose no-apology liberalism is about as polar opposite of Bush's conservatism as they come. Both men, however, share respect of Collins, a one-time segregationist whose crowning achievement as governor was integrating Florida.

"I respect Martin Dyckman, too ... (but) his opinions are almost universally wrong," Bush said.

Latest movie viewed: Hollywoodland. "I can't talk to you about it if you haven't seen it," Bush quipped.
