Jeb supports McCollum, not public campaign financing
Jeb Bush may be one of Bill McCollum's most significant supporters in his race for governor. But Bush's very own words are being used against McCollum in a Rick Scott ad criticizing McCollum for previously saying he opposes using public money for political campaigns and then seeking taxpayer money to support his run for governor. The ad notes that Jeb Bush called public campaign financing "welfare for politicans."
During a campaign stop for McCollum in Tampa today, Bush confirmed he doesn't support public campaign financing. "Never have. Never will," But he said McCollum had to do what he thinks is best given the huge imbalance in funding for the two campaigns. "Never in my mind did I imagine some guy stroking a $25, $30 million check from his own bank account to run a campaign. That was never envisioned to be acceptable and I think it will be rejected," Bush said. "I think people think that's a little weird."
