Jeb's Future in Alt. Energy?
Governor Jeb Bush is pushing his new bio-fuels agenda in an interview published today in the Times, and also featured at The Times new blog, The Fueling Station.
Is this a sign of where his future may lie after January? The governor isn't ready to declare his intentions quite yet, but he says he hopes to remain "involved" in the alternative energy debate. Florida's ties with Latin America are one of the things he cares most about, so a job in this field could be right up his alley.
He's written to his brother recommending that the US lift a tariff on Brazilian ethanol in order to boost the domestic market for alternative fuels. Mid Western corn growers don't like it, but Bush says it's a matter of national security. The US, he says, is too vulnerable to disruptions in fuel supply due to hurricanes and global instability. The governor has opened talks with Brazil and a delegation from Florida FTAA returned this week from high level discussions.
