Jeffrey Skilling: 24 years, Bill McCollum: $24K
This is one political connection Skip Campbell's attorney general campaign would love you didn't forget: Bill McCollum and the Enron boys. This came from the Campbell campaign today, off the news that Enron exec Jeffrey Skilling was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
"It is difficult to image McCollum as a consumer watchdog when you see this lineup of shady friends - Jack Abramoff, Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling," said Jeff Garcia, Campbell's Campaign Manager. McCollum in the past has taken about $24,000 from Enron employees.
The campaign even trotted out the old work of Buzzer Steve Bousquet, during his days in south Florida. "The biggest single donor to McCollum's effort is EnronCorp., a Texas-based energy conglomerate that also has been a leading contributor to George W. Bush's presidential campaign. McCollum is a 20-yearmember of Congress with a solid pro-business record. McCollum said he's been friends with Enron CEO Ken Lay for 20 years, when Lay lived in Florida."
"We've known each other since I ran for Congress and he supported me then," McCollum said.
