Jim Greer refiles suit against Fla GOP
Orlando Sentinel: Ousted Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer Friday refiled his suit against the state party, this time upping the ante, saying he plans to seek $5 million in damages.
Just like before, it alleges the party and former chairman John Thrasher cheated him out of $123,000 in severance.
Rather than face an open vote on his dismissal, Greer, 49, of Oviedo, resigned in January 2010. Party leaders were outraged by his extravagant spending habits.
The severance deal he negotiated was signed by his successor, John Thrasher, who's named as a defendant in the suit, as well as Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon, Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos and party lawyer Jason Gonzalez.
Party officials initially denied there was an agreement then admitted, yes, there was one but said it hadn't been properly executed. They then argued they didn't have to pay because Greer was a liar and thief.
