Joe Lieberman's VP advice to Rubio: 'Continue to be who you are. Fate will work its will'
Sen. Joe Lieberman would not entertain a question about Marco Rubio as a vice presidential candidate but had nothing but praise for his Florida colleague after today's Brookings speech.
"I'm a great admirer of Marco Rubio but I'm going to stay clear of 2012 politics no matter how tempting it may be," Lieberman said. "I think some people around whom such VP speculation swirls would choose to remain quiet. But I think he's just doing what he would do in any case. I think that's who he is. He's just saying 'This is what matters to me. These are my values. This is my patriotic vision of America's destiny.' "
Would he be experienced enough? "I'm sure people would have questions about his youth but he spoke as thoughtfully and well and answered question with as much confidence and information as people who have been around foreign relations for decades. By whatever standard one is applying, Marco Rubio passed the test."
Any advice for someone being considered as a running mate? "Just continue to be who you are. Fate will work its will."
