Joe Negron is officially Sen. Negron
Joe Negron just got sworn into the Florida Senate, replacing longtime lawmaker Ken Pruitt, the fellow Republican who left his Treasure Coast seat in August -- with more than a year left in his term.
Negron, a budget whiz, served in the Florida House from 2000 to 2006 -- the last two as appropriations chairman. This morning, joined by his wife, parents and in-laws, he sounded a lot like the optimistic Gov. Charlie Crist in his sunny outlook of Florida's potential.
"I believe Florida's best days are ahead of us," said Negron, R-St. Lucie. "I believe our constituents are resilient, strong. If we give them the power and the tools, we'll see a state we can all be proud of."
Sitting in the Senate chamber and gallery watching the swearing-in were a number of elected and state officials and lobbyists, including Crist, Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp and AHCA head Holly Benson, who served with Negron in the House.
