Joe Scarborough: Marco Rubio's not ready to be VP
Former Florida Congressman Joe Scarborough today weighed in on Marco Rubio's vice presidential prospects on Morning Joe (clip below: "He's not ready to be vice president - just like Barack Obama wasn't readsy to be president in 2008, just like Sarah Palin wasn't ready to be on the national ticket in 2008. Marco Rubio's a great guy, he's got a compelling story, and my God what a great demographic he will speak to on a national ticket some day. But he is not ready to be on a national ticket in 2012...I would just warn those who are fans of Marco Rubio, who think they are doing him a favor by pushing him center stage right after he's been elected to the United States Senate: Back off, you're going to hurt him in the long run because he's not ready to be in the oval office, he's not ready to be president of the United States."
By the way, former John McCain adviser Steve Schmidt on Morning Joe Wednesday said Rubio probably already is being vetted by the Mitt Romney campaign:
"You saw Marco Rubio last week -- his answer about the vice president changed very much. To me, that says 'I'm getting vetted'.
Once you start going through that, once you start going through the process, you stop talking about the process. People who aren't getting vetted are going to say 'I'm not being vetted. I'm not going to do it'.
People who are going to be vetted say 'Well, I'm going to respect the process, and I won't talk about that.'
But his answer to me clearly said that yeah, he's starting to turn over records and documents."
