John Thrasher's $1-million promise to FL GOP
In his bid to be chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, state Sen. John Thrasher of St. Augustine is appealing to the bottom line. He vows to raise $1 million for the party by the Feb. 20 election and challenges rival Sharon Day of Fort Lauderdale to keep up. Check out the letter he sent out today to the Republican Party of Florida's executive committee members:
Dear Fellow Committee Members:
This week has been an exciting one for Republicans across the country! The tide has turned with the win for Republican Scott Brown in the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts, one of the nations bluest states. Since the ground-shaking win, many of our fellow Republicans have told me that they hope to see this type of excitement and Republican voter turnout in Florida in November.
I have heard your call for building an energized base, and I want you all to know that I not only hear you, but I have answered with a commitment to raise more than $1 million for the RPOF before the next time we meet on February 20th. In only a week, I have already raised more than $100,000 for the RPOF towards this goal of more than a million. We need to pull together and raise as much money as possible, regardless of who is elected chairman. And I encourage all candidates for chairman to join me in making a commitment to raise money for the party between now and the election on February 20th.I believe that my commitment is a reasonable commitment for anyone who to wants to lead our Party during an election cycle that will prove to be the most critical in over a decade.
We have seen the Republican momentum building, and we need to make sure our Party can continue to build its grassroots operation and recruit Republican voters, despite a special election for Chairman that is
going on in the background.I am overwhelmed by the support from those of you I have met while campaigning across the state. If we have not visited, I look forward to doing so in the coming weeks and hearing your vision for the future of our Party.
