Johnson: All Insurance All The Time

Republican state Rep. Randy Johnson has two opponents in the Sept. 5 primary for Chief Financial Officer. But as far as he's concerned there's just one issue: insurance.

Johnson, R-Celebration,  released his plan to stabilize homeowners insurance premiums on Thursday, calling it the true "Republican" plan for tackling Florida's insurance crisis.

His partisan designation is another swipe at chief CFO rival Senate President Tom Lee, the Valrico Republican who engineered the 11th hour insurance legislation this spring that Johnson says benefits mainly insurance companies.

Johnson's plan includes prohibiting insurance companies from dropping any homeowner policies for 30 days prior to and after hurricane season, allowing homeowners to appeal when insurance companies reject claims for damage they say was caused by floods, requiring that new homeowners be told upfront what the first 12 months of insurance premiums will cost and establishing rate equity based on the strength of the structure, not its geographic location.
