Judge stays execution
A federal judge in Orlando has issued a stay of execution for Mark Dean Schwab, the convicted child killer scheduled to die Thursday. A stay was widely expected given lethal injection proceedings before the U.S. Supreme Court.
"I am disappointed that the family of the victim, Junny Rios-Martinez, will have to continue to wait to see justice done," Gov. Charlie Crist said in a statement.
Schwab, 38, is the first Death Row inmate set to be executed under Crist and the first since Florida halted its own procedures after the botched lethal injection of Angel Diaz in December.
