Legislature: Governor's transition e-mails public
The Senate on Wednesday passed and sent to Gov. Rick Scott a bill that clarifies that transition emails by the governor and other statewide officials are public record under Florida law. The measure (HB 1305), which Scott's office supports, was inspired by Times/Herald reports of deleted emails during Scott's transition to power in November and December 2010.
The bill passed both houses unanimously and became the eighth bill of the 2012 session to reach the governor's desk. The sponsors are Rep. Janet Adkins, R-Fernandina Beach, and Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement still has an active investigation -- one requested by Scott -- of the email deletions. "It's still an active investigation," said FDLE spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger.
