LeMieux makes first hires
Incoming U.S. Sen. George LeMieux begins his training session for his new job today. He travels to Miami to meet with outgoing Sen. Mel Martinez then plans a meeting with Sens. John McCain and Mitch McConnell to discuss committee assignments.
LeMieux said he's prepared for the attacks from naysayers, noting that he'll comply with the law and disclose all his clients on his financial disclosure form within 30 days as required. But, he says, he will not be Gov. Charlie Crist's proxy.
"I'm my own man,'' LeMieux said Tuesday as he waited for a flight to Miami. "I'm going to call them as I see them.''
LeMieux has already appointed his first staffer: Vivian Myrtetus (left). The former communications director for Crist will serve as a senior advisor and move to Washington, D.C., with him. Heading his transition team will be Peter Rummell, former head of the St. Joe Company.
