Listen to Obama's campaign call
We were among those speculating awhile back that Barack Obama might not play hard in Florida, but it's time to put that speculation to bed. Things may be different come September or October, but all evidence points to Obama launching a major Florida campaign.
Campaign manager David Plouffe on a conference call today talked up the campaign's ability to expand the electoral playing field so that the campaign does not have to rely on any one state to reach 270 electoral votes and has any number of scenarios to win. He promised to "pour a lot of resources and a lot of time" into Florida: "A couple months ago you saw Republican operatives trying to suggest somehow that Florida might be a state that was going to be out out of reach for us. Where we are today is there's public polls that have us up a few points, others that have it about tied. Which given the fact that we didn't campaign there, we think it's a terrific place to start and we think Florida is going to be highly competitive."
