Lobbyists do more than write checks to legislators and legislative candidates. They pound the pavement, too. A July 18 memo on Republican Party of Florida letterhead to "Tallahassee lobbyists" from Bill Helmich, political director of House campaigns in 2006, thanks the lobbyists for their footwork.
"We are pleased to hear that many of you are organizing walks for Republican House candidates. The (party) believes that walking door-to-door is the number one method for House candidates to increase their name identification and thus increase their chances for victory on Election Day," Helmich wrote.
