Lucy Morgan: Scott needs to stop FDLE vetting of citizens
State officials are claiming it is just a longtime routine for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, tasked with the governor's security, to vet citizens seeking to meet with the governor -- as it did in advance of last week's statewide tour of schools. But as Tampa Bay Times senior correspondent learned after speaking with officials from the administrations of Govs. Bob Graham, Lawton Chiles, Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist, it's just not true.
Morgan writes in a Friday op-ed column: "Something is fundamentally wrong when background checks are being routinely run on Floridians meeting with the governor, at least one person is rejected for reasons that are not explained — and the claim that it's just the way it always has been done is at odds with the truth."
