The man in the blue guayabera
That would be Tom Lee, the Senate president and Republican CFO candidate, as he walked a mostly Hispanic precinct in a suburb south of Orlando Saturday afternoon. Lee joined a group of Charlie Crist supporters as they walked door to door, with Crist and Rep. John Quinones, R-Kissimmee, leading the way. Polls show Lee locked in a tight race with Democrat Alex Sink.
As Latin music blared from speakers and an overly exuberant woman loudly blew a whistle, it would be safe to say this was not Tom Lee's natural habitat, politically speaking. He stayed mostly in the background as Crist dominated the proceedings -- so much in the background that a supporter, Carole Clancy, at one point literally nudged him to get closer to the TV cameras.
"I keep pushing him. He's a little shy," said Clancy, of the Osceola Federated Republican Women's club. "He's a good guy, though, and he seems very honest."
