Martinez okay with attorney general pick
U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez says he plans to vote for Eric Holder's confirmation as the U.S. attorney general. Saying he believes in the president's right to pick his Cabinet, Martinez said he met with Holder and "he answered a number of questions to my satisfaction ... Eric Holder understands the unique role of the attorney general and further, I think he's qualified."
He said he would urge his fellow Republicans to back him as well. Holder, who stands to become the first black AG, is facing flack from Republicans for signing off on controversial pardons when he was deputy attorney general under former President Bill Clinton.
