McCollum lobbied for witness who reportedly hired Rentboy escort
In defending the state's gay adoption ban, Attorney General Bill McCollum personally lobbied then-DCF Secretary Bob Butterworth to hire expert witness George Rekers, who is now embroiled in an online gay prostitute scandal.
In a July 2007 letter to Butterworth, McCollum wrote that his staff members "strongly recommend" Rekers as a witness. "They believe that this expert and his testimony are necessary to ensure a successful result in this case."
McCollum said yesterday, ""I wouldn’t do it again if I knew what I know today, but I didn't know that then and neither did anybody else."
