Meet the winner and loser of the week
Winner of the week
Ray Sansom: Most Floridians may be feeling pinched in the wallet these days, but becoming Florida House speaker appears pretty lucrative to Sansom. The very day the Destin Republican was sworn in as speaker, Northwest Florida State College announced Sansom had been hired at a salary of $110,000 as vice president for development and planning. Before his new gig, he had been earning about $83,000 working for an electric cooperative.
Loser of the week
Karen Thurman: We still have our doubts that Thurman will be ousted as state party chairwoman, but she became loser of the week when CFO Alex Sink declined to issue an early endorsement of Thurman. That's not a good sign when one of only two Democrats elected statewide will give their state party leader an unqualified thumbs-up.
