Meggs says he will ask Attorney General's Office to appeal
State Attorney Willie Meggs, whose case against Ray Sansom was handed major setback today, said he will ask the Attorney General's Office to appeal the decision.
"I’m disappointed and a little surprised," Meggs said. "It‘s fairly obvious to me that three people sat down and decided they were going to build this building and Jay Odom was going to use it."
But Judge Terry Lewis effectively agreed with the defense attorneys that the official misconduct charge could not apply to the Legislature. Meggs said he was collecting court documents and preparing a request for an appeal. "If the statute is unconstitutional, it's unconstitutional," he said. "But I feel real strong about it. I think it was all wrong."
