State Attorney Willie Meggs will fold allegations about a secretive board of trustees meeting into a broader criminal investigation of House Speaker Ray Sansom's dealings with the college.

Meggs and Bill Eddins, state attorney in Pensacola, got the letter today from Attorney General Bill McCollum and decided it was best for Meggs to handle.

"Since the meeting occurred in Tallahassee and since State Attorney Meggs has empaneled a grand jury to consider related matters, we have agreed it would be more efficient for his office to handle ...," Eddins told the Times/Herald.

Meanwhile the college issued a statement saying its "legal consultants believed beforehand and afterwards that there was no Government in the Sunshine violation." The college said it has routinely traveled to the capital for meetings, but Sansom was the only lawmaker at the meeting. (Photo by Alex Leary)
