Mel Martinez's love letter: 'Dear Barack'
This morning, U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez pounded Sen. Barack Obama during a conference call arranged by the McCain campaign, saying the Democrat was "AWOL" during the immigration debate in Congress.
But the Obama campaign dug up this letter that Martinez sent to Obama thanking him for support of the immigration reform bill. It noted the letter came after Obama had supported an amendment that would have sunsetted the guest worker program, a provision Martinez decried today as a "poison pill."
"While it failed, your backing of this important legislation meant a lot to me personally," Martinez wrote. "I know that standing firm in the face of extreme pressure has not been easy, and again, I thank you."
