Mike Tyson to 'Politico:' 'I never did drugs on the boat'
Maggie Haberman of Politico blogs today about a conversation with Mike Tyson where he explains his relationship with U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Greene and time spent aboard Greene's yacht, Summerwind.
I just got off the phone with Mike Tyson - yes, Mike Tyson - who said flatly that he never did any drugs aboard Florida U.S. Senate hopeful Jeff Greene's yacht, the Summerwind, while he was traveling with him in August 2005.
I reported a few weeks ago that Tyson had described some stops during a lost "junkie" summer to Sports Illustrated, and that at least some of those stops had been aboard the Summerwind. He did not say in the interview that that he did drugs aboard the boat, or even that he had been on it (Greene later confirmed he had been, but insisted nothing happened).
"Jeff had nothing to do with it," Tyson said. "I didn't do drugs on the boat. I had a problem. I had just lost a fight. I was depressed. I was fighting for 20 years, I was finding out after 20 years I was broke. Jeff said, 'Come with me on the Summerwind.'"
"I would go places," he said. "I wasn't with Jeff 24 hours a day. I wasn't on the boat 24 hours a day."
