Mitt Romney decries 'effort to try and smear' Marco Rubio
Campaigning today in New Hampshire Mitt Romney was asked about Marco Rubio and publicity over Rubio's parents immigrating to America during the regime of Fulgencio Batista - not, as widely believed, after Fidel Castro came to power.
REPORTER: “Governor, speaking of Florida…every time you’re down there the name Marco Rubio gets name-dropped…you put him on a floating VP short list there…wondering if you could comment on the Washington Post story on his background? Does that change your view of him? Anything about that?”
ROMNEY: “I have the highest respect for Marco Rubio. I think his family history, having come to this country, speaks for itself. This is a family that came with nothing and Marco Rubio and his family deserve the highest praise and recognition. I think the world of Marco Rubio, support him entirely and think that the effort to try and smear him was unfortunate and bogus.”
