Mitt Romney: Don't worry Fla GOP, I've got your back on convention

Mitt Romney sat down with me for a quick interview for Bay News 9 today. He offered some reassuring words to Florida Republican activists hoping he'll work to ensure the state gets treated well at the Republican National Convention, despite the RNC cutting the delegation in half and promising other penalties for the state violating the official primary schedule.

"I don't have an announcement today but you can imagine given the big boost that I got from the people of Florida, the Florida delegation has a very warm spot in my heart, so I'll workwith the Republican National Committee, which ultimately sets the rules, and you'll know which way I'm pulling," Romney said. "There's no questiuon I have a very warm spot in my heart for theFlorida delegation."

Asked what a Romney administration would do to help the more than 40 percent of Florida homeowners underwater on the mortgages, Romney suggested repealing Wall Street regulation would be a big step.

"I want to get people who are waiting to get banks to renegotiate their loans, I want to get that done. Bankers have been very slow in renegotiating the mortgages, helping people do through the process, short sales and so forth that allow these products, these homes, to be taken out of the market so they can be bought by new investors," Romney said. "Govenment has made it harder for the banks to do it. The Dodd Frank legislation has scared particularly community banks in such a way that they're just paralyzed. They're not taking action to help people get their mortgages renegotiated and let people either stay in their home or have the home ultimately go back in the hands of new investors that will turn it around and ultimately bring home values back up."
