More reaction to Sotomayor

Sen. Mel Martinez: “I think we’ve got to make sure it’s a fair process, and that it’s a process that is handled with the kind of dignity that comes with the office." He said senators of both parties should not “presume that she is qualified – although on paper she looks eminently qualified – or that she is unqualified based on one thing she said one day.”Sotomayor

Sen. Bill Nelson: "I'm told she brings an open mind to each case she hears and decides them on the merits. I look forward to a more detailed review of her record during the confirmation process."

State GOP Chairman Jim Greer: "We look forward to a complete review of Judge Sotomayor’s record and her personal convictions, as they relate to the judicial philosophy she would employ as a justice on the United States Supreme Court. For today, we congratulate Judge Sotomayor on this accomplishment and look forward to the coming weeks as members of the United States Senate face the daunting task of carefully analyzing Judge Sotomayor’s qualifications and experience as well as her extensive writings and opinions."

State Democratic Chairwoman Karen Thurman: "Sotomayor's stirring life story and outstanding career -- at nearly every level of our judicial system -- makes her uniquely qualified to serve as America's next Supreme Court Justice. Throughout her career on the bench, she has been lauded as a fearless jurist, with a sharp and independent mind and a deep commitment to the rule of law and our constitutional traditions. I commend President Obama on his outstanding choice and congratulate Judge Sotomayor on her nomination."

Republican activist Ana Navarro: “We need to get to the point where an Estrada and a Sotomayor gets the same level of scrutiny as a Roberts or a Thomas, not more and not less. It does not take rocket science to realize Obama has full-fledged courting of the Hispanic constituency going on and Republicans need to keep reminding the Latinos that he made promises on immigration that until now he has run from.’’
