Movers & Shakers: Putnam loses spox, prisons chief parts ways

19

November

Our blog cataloged lots of political changes last week, from legislative appointments to the downfall of could-have-been House Speaker Rep. Chris Dorworth, R-Lake Mary.

But we also want to make you aware of some changes that have been a tad more under the radar.

Putnam spox leaves for Progress Energy

Sterling Ivey, former flack for former Gov. Charlie Crist, is leaving his post as spokesman for Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam.

Ivey has also worked for Pinellas County Schools, the Florida Department of State, and the Florida Department of Corrections.

His new job will be with Duke/Progress Energy in St. Petersburg as a senior communications specialist. Ivey said he's enjoyed working in the public sector and looks forward to a new adventure.

Prisons Chief parts ways

Prisons Chief Ken Tucker has also parted ways.

Tucker, who has been secretary at the Department of Corrections about a year, is the 8th agency head to leave under Gov. Rick Scott.

He referred to the agency's "struggle" in this farewell video to his staff and friends.

Staff changes at Enterprise Florida

Enterprise Florida, the state's economic development arm, also announced several staff changes last week.

Matt Lowell has been promoted to business development director. He joined Enterprise Florida in February 2011 as a business development manager.

Mike Preston has been promoted to vice president of government relations. Preston joined Enterprise Florida in November 2008.

Rocky McPherson has been promoted to vice president, military and defense support. McPherson has overseen military and defense programs, joining the company in August 2007.

Sharon Blake is now vice president of human resources and office services. Blake has been responsible for staffing, benefits and training functions since coming to Enterprise Florida in March 2008.

Rep. Ross Spano hires aide

Jonathan Rees is moving from his position as governmental and political affairs coordinator at Associated Industries of Florida to be the legislative aide for Rep. Ross Spano, whose district includes much of East Hillsborough County.

Rees worked on Spano's campaign, and now has officially jumped on board with his legislative office.

Susan Grandin takes reins at Division of State Lands

Jacksonville Lawyer Susan Grandin will be the new director at the Division of State Lands at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Current reported.

The high-profile position consists of overseeing the big-budget conservation land-buying program.

Grandin works with Preservation Law Group and the state Environmental Regulation Commission. She replaces Clay Smallwood who retired October 1. The governor and Cabinet are expected to confirm her Dec. 11.

Movers & Shakers is a weekly (sometimes!) posting of political personnel changes. Send tips to bdavis@tampabay.com or via twitter at britt_alana.
