Nelson raises $2.5-million
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson raised about $2.5-million in the fundraising period that ended June 30. The Democratic senator has $12-million on hand, making him one of the top fundraisers in the Senate.
His likely opponent, Republican Rep. Katherine Harris, declined to release fundraising totals until July 15, the deadline to file a report with the federal government. Campaign staffers say they are still crunching the numbers.
Other Republicans in the Senate race include: Peter Monroe with about $250,000 ($110,000 as a loan to himself) and LeRoy Collins Jr. with about $80,000. No word on Will McBride except that he put a nominal amount of money in himself.
