Nelson raises nearly $2 million for quarter

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson raised nearly $2 million for the quarter, his campaign confirmed today, adding to the slightly more than $3 million he had in the bank. The campaign said the Democrat would report between $4.5 and $5 million in the bank so far for his re-election bid.

"Word on the street among campaign consultants is that Nelson will report raising more this quarter than any other elected Democrat in the Senate, except for New York's U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who reportedly raised $3 million," the campaign said.

Meantime, Nelson took to the Senate floor to blast a plan by House Republicans that would overhaul Medicare, a politically sensitive proposition anywhere but particularly in Florida. Video below.
