Nelson's victory party
Early in the evening, 29-year-old Nan Ellen Nelson sang a song she wrote for her dad's campaign: "Vote for Bill Nelson, he's on your side. Come on everyone, elect Bill Nelson statewide."
Later, the crowd of 250 at the Embassy Suites in downtown Orlando chanted, "six more years," as Nelson took the stage.
"Along the way, I've been very grateful to learn quite a few things,"
"From the troops I visited I learned that there's no end to the courage deep in America's soul. From you I've learned about the quiet heroes that make this place, this country, a better place each day."
"I want to reach out and try to bring people together and help govern this nation. Folks aren't looking for a democrat or Republican solution, they're looking for a right solution. and if you do what's right you can get a lot done."
"You all have honored me with more than anything I could have dreamed of tonight with this resounding victory."
"As I look...into the faces of the people of this great state, I'm so grateful for a lifetime of public service, you all have given me."
"So for you all to participate in a participatory democracy as you have, we are all very very very grateful."
As soon as Nelson finished, the U2 song "Beautiful Day" pipes up.
