Newt on Charlie and Marco

We caught up with Newt Gingrich for a "Political Connections" interview that will air Sunday on Bay News 9. We asked what he thought of Charlie Crist winning raves for Democrats for helping restore civil rights for felons, reaching out to the teachers union and talking up his concerns about global warming.

"He is philosophically a very solid Republican,'' the prospective presidential candidate said of Crist, whom he has known since 1984. "Remember, Gov. Bush was very sensitive on the environment too, so I think the fact that the governor's concerned about global warming tells you he is in a tradition where Gov. Bush fits and frankly where I would be....I have to say i do think that Marco Rubio is extraordinary. I think he is a future national leader in his own right. ... My hope would be that the governor and speaker working together are going to be a terrific team for Florida. There's no state in the country that needs consistent, effective leadership more than Florida just because of the continuous growth you're faced with."
