Nickens is new editorials editor
Tim Nickens, a veteran reporter and editor for the St. Petersburg Times, has been appointed editor of editorials. Nickens, 49, joined the Times as a reporter in 1983 and has since worked as a statehouse reporter in Tallahassee, political editor and metro editor.
For the past four years, he has served as deputy editor of editorials. In his new role, Nickens will succeed Phillip L. Gailey, editor of editorials and vice president, who is retiring at the end of this month. Nickens becomes the Times' third editor of editorials in the past 44 years. Nickens grew up in Indiana and attended Indiana University. He and his wife, Bridget, live in St. Petersburg and have two teenage daughters.
