Nine finalists make cut for 2 DCA vacancies
Nine finalists -- five men, four women -- will be submitted to Gov. Charlie Crist for two vacancies on North Florida's First District Court of Appeal. Among them are Lori Rowe, a deputy chief of staff under Crist; Solicitor General Scott Makar, who works for Attorney General Bill McCollum; and attorney T. Kent Wetherell III, son of the outgoing Florida State University president and an administrative law judge.
Other finalists are state court judges George Reynolds and Waddell "Del" Wallace, and administrative law judge Charles Stampelos, and attorneys Lynn Hearn, Jessica Varn and Karen Walker. Hearn is general counsel for the Department of State, and Varn is a Public Employee Relations Commission member. Walker is a lawyer at Holland & Knight.
There were 24 applicants for the judgeships. Two notables who did not make the cut were Gerald Curington, deputy general counsel in Crist's office, and Lawrence Ringers Jr., chief of staff for the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
