No Casinos seeks to join legal challenge to Hialeah slots law

15

November

No Casinos, the Disney-backed anti-casinos group, has asked to join Calder Race Track and Flagler Racing in challenging the law that allowed Hialeah to open slot machines at its re-opened race track. A lower court ruled in favor of Hialeah and now the matter is before the Florida Supreme Court.

In a one-page petition to the court, lawyers for No Casinos, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association and the Florida Attractions Association asked the court for permission to file a amicus curiae brief on behalf of Calder and Flagler, who are challenging the law.

Even though No Casinos was dormant when the bill was passed, and none of the other associations opposed the measure when lawmakers debated it, the groups argue that their interests "will be impacted" if the law is allowed to remain in effect. Download No Casinos amicus
