Obama supports Nelson

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illionois, e-mailed supporters on Wednesday, asking for donations for Bill Nelson's re-election campaign. Obama calls Florida's senior senator a close ally, a dear friend and a "tough, principled leader.''

"I know you all remember the 2000 presidential election when Florida was the scene of one of the most badly mismanaged vote counts in American electoral history. Well, now Katherine Harris, once the person in charge of administering a fair election and counting all the votes in Florida, is trying to become Florida's next U.S. Senator."

It's not the first time he's lend a hand to Nelson. In his letter, Obama says he has visited Florida three times already this election season.
