Oil drilling is safe, at least they said so last year
Times photographer Scott Keeler found this gem in his files from covering the 2009 legislative session. The American Petroleum Institute sponsored this display on the third floor of the Capitol for a few days to educate lawmakers, reporters and the public about what it considers minimally invasive drilling techniques. At the time, some Republican lawmakers pushed a proposal to open up drilling in state waters.
David R. Mica, left, executive director of the Florida Petroleum Council, is talking with Scott Ashley, president and general counsel of the Wine and Spirits Distributors of Florida, in Tallahassee.
Expect you won't see anything like this in the Capitol when lawmakers return for an anti-drilling special session this month.
