Oil spill claims czar Kenneth Feinberg to testify before House committee Friday

Gulf Coast Claims Facility administrator Kenneth Feinberg will testify before a House committee Friday morning about the controversial oil spill claims process put into effect following the Deepwater Horizon explosion.

BP and President Barack Obama chose Feinberg, a D.C. attorney, to oversee the private sector claims process in July. He testified before a U.S. Senate ad hoc committee Jan. 27, assuring lawmakers the "facility is working as intended."

House Speaker Dean Cannon asked Rep. Dorothy Hukill's Economic Affairs committee in January to review the process after learning of "numerous breakdowns and inconsistencies."

In a Friday e-mail, Hukill told members to expect the committee to follow a strict schedule and to submit written questions for Feinberg no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting starts at 8:45 a.m. in Webster Hall.
