One Republican who isn't mad at Charlie Crist: Jim Greer

Former Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer is one of the few Republicans defending former Gov. Charlie Crist for his decision to endorse President Barack Obama.

In an email Wednesday night Greer praised Crist for refusing to "blindly follow the Republican party line.''

Greer, awaiting trial on money laundering and fraud charges, said he has not always agreed with Crist and believes he has at times put his own interest ahead of others, note that Crist resisted efforts to change voter laws that would have given an unfair advantage to the GOP and always was willing to work with Democras on "good public policy.''

Greer said Republicans who have attacked Crist "lack the ability to understand what it takes to serve the people rather than a political party, "a distinction they need to learn before the destruction of the Republican Party is complete.
Greer was Crist's hand picked chairman. He quickly ran into trouble with other GOP leaders in 2009 and was ousted from the party leadership in early 2010. He is accused of diverting about $200,000 in party funds to a company he created to handle fundraising.
