Vacated job chief slot open for hire
Doug Darling, executive director of the state’s main agency for job creation, resigned abruptly from his own job six months after Gov. Rick Scott appointed him.
In a letter to Scott, Darling said he was leaving his post as executive director of the Department of Economic Opportunity for “personal reasons.”
Cynthia Lorenzo, the agency's chief operating officer, has been named interim director. For more, read here.
New hire at RNC
The Republican National Committee hired Matt Connelly as Regional Press Secretary for the Southeast Region. He recently worked for Utah Governor Jon Huntsman.
Two veterans join Ron Sachs Communications
Longtime state government communications director Jon Peck and communications and legislative strategist Dia Kuykendall join Ron Sachs Communications as senior account managers.
Peck was a journalist for eight years before his 26-year career in state government. He was press secretary to Governor Bob Martinez and chief spokesman for the Department of Community Affairs, the Department of Elder Affairs, the Division of Emergency Management and, most recently, the Florida Commission on Human Relations. He was also an aide to two attorneys general.
Kuykendall has spent the past three years in public affairs with Visit Florida, the official tourism marketing corporation for the State of Florida. She is also an adjunct professor in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communications at Florida A & M University. Dia previously worked as a reporter for Milwaukee's NBC affiliate WDJT-TV and a production assistant for C-SPAN's Washington Journal in Washington, DC.
The Florida State Board of Administration announces new Inspector General
The Florida State Board of Administration appointed Ken Chambers as Inspector General. Chambers comes to the SBA from the Florida Supreme Court, where he has been the Inspector General since 2004 and was responsible for audits and investigations involving the State Courts System.
Florida OIR gains new communications director
Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty announced that Amy Bogner is appointed Deputy Director of Communications. Bogner previously was Communications Director for the Florida Outdoor Advertising Association.
