The original Chick-fil-A champion: Dan Webster

chick.jpgWho needs an uproar over gay marriage to appreciate a Chick-fil-A meal?

U.S. Rep. Dan Webster, R-Winter Garden, has been a patron of the restaurant long before it was cool (or taboo). Faced with the vexing and contentious problem of overhauling Florida's property tax laws, then state Sen. Webster and Rep. Dean Cannon would meet at Chick-fil-A in the Orlando area to hammer out legislation. Cut-mor-Taxes?

At fundraisers for his Congressional campaign, he serves Chick-fil-A, a fiscally conservative choice over catering or posh D.C. hangouts like Charlie Palmer Steak.

We hear Webster's affinity is rooted in something deeper than religion and politics; he goes there for the food and friendly service.
