Pam Iorio, Deborah Clark blast Florida Legislature's election proposals
Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark and Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, a former elections supervisor in Hillsborough, have both criticized the Legislature's proposed overhaul of the state's election laws.
Iorio, a Democrat, said in a letter to Gov. Charlie Crist that the bills would make it harder for people to register to vote and cast ballots, and blasted a process of moving such major legislation "with scant public notice, debate or dialogue."
Clark, a Republican, issued a four-page analysis of the bills, calling various provisions a hardship for voters, unenforceable, excessive and expensive. Read Clark's memo to lawmakers here.
The full House is scheduled to debate the elections bill on the floor Friday, after Republican leaders rejected Democratic calls to refer the proposal back to a committee for a detailed public discussion.
