Panhandle leaders back Day for GOP chair
Longtime Republican activist Sharon Day of Fort Lauderdale is slowly chipping away at the inevitability of state Sen. John Thrasher of St. Augustine as the next chairman of the state party. In defiance of the top elected Republicans in the state who threw their weight behind Thrasher, several party leaders from the Panhandle are backing Day. Here's their endorsement letter:
Dear Fellow Committee Members,
For many years the Panhandle was the secret weapon of the Republican Party. With our strong military presence, fiscal conservatism and traditional values we overwhelmingly made a difference in statewide elections. And once again we have an opportunity to have a strong impact on our Party's future. We have worked closely with Sharon Day, witnessed her tireless energy and know of her commitment to Republican Party principles. Whenever we needed help, support or someone to rally the troops, we knew Sharon was only a phone call away. We are confident, that as our State Chair, she will bring that same energy and dedication to all 67 counties. The role of Party Chair is CEO, and the best CEOs know every job in their company. As an active Party leader, Sharon knows the inner workings of the Party and the value of sweat equity in getting Republicans elected. We are confident that no one will do more to prepare our Party to head into the November elections and to ensure victory for all our candidates, than Sharon Day. We the activists of the Republican Party already know that our Party offers the best ideas for America, and based upon the results of this past week, voters are making it clear they do not want business as usual. Let us learn the lesson and create an environment in our Party that encourages hard work from the grass root level and encourages the inclusion of all those that share our proud convictions. With the election of Sharon Day we will send that message loud and clear across Florida.
Therefore, we the undersigned proudly and strongly urge you to voice your support and cast your vote on February 20th for the next Chair of the Republican Party of Florida, one of our own, Sharon Day.

UPDATE: E-mails provided by the Thrasher campaign show Lamb endorsed him, not Day. Lamb said there was a "misunderstanding."
