Parole commissioner selected
The Florida Cabinet reappointed Parole Commissioner Fred Dunphy, a retired Miami-Dade police officer, to the Florida Parole Commission.
CFO Alex Sink had tried to stall and redo the process, asking for a new slate of candidates, after Rep. Curtis Richardson had announced on Monday that he was pulling his name from consideration due to his lack of law enforcement experience and votes for the spot. Richardson, D-Tallahassee, is term-limited.
The remaining two remaining candidates for the spot were a white man and an African-American woman.
"We know that approximately 55% of those that come before the commission are members of our minority communities. We’d be faced with a continuing environment where all three (commissioners) are not representative of our commission," Sink said. Her motion to redo the process failed when no one agreed to second her motion.
