Pasco County: Florida's bellwether
Looking for the early word on who Florida elects as governor tonight? The best bet may be the Web site of the Pasco Supervisor of Elections, pascovotes.com.
Since 1990, Pasco voters have picked the winner of 29 of 32 statewide races from president to governor to commissioner of agriculture. Often, the vote breakdown has mirrored - within a few percentage points - the statewide results. Combine that with the county's reputation for counting votes quickly, and Pasco becomes a bellwether for political junkies.
When returns come in, Dave Beattie, pollster for U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, said he looks at three places: Duval County for Republican margins, Broward County for Democrats' advantage - and Pasco to predict where the state is going. More here.
