Pat Tornillo dies

25

June

The loved, hated and convicted union boss was 81. Here's the statement from FEA president Andy Ford:

“Pat made a significant impact in the integration of the black and white teachers' unions, the 1968 walkout and in the split in the original Florida Education Association, which resulting in the creation of FEA/United and the Florida Teaching Profession-National Education Association. Finally Pat was instrumental in helping to bring the union back together as the new FEA in 2000. While always a controversial figure on the Florida education and political landscapes, it was his courage and conviction that raised the status of the teaching profession in Florida.”
