Paul Ryan in St. Pete, prepping for debate
UPDATED:
Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan arrived in St. Pete Monday evening to prep for Thursday's debate against Joe Biden. He's staying at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in downtown St. Petersburg, as is former solicitor general Ted Olson, who is playing Biden in the debate practices. At this point no public events are planned.
We're told Ryan spent this morning focused policy briefings with staff – not necessarily debate-related. He will fly to Kentucky tomorrow for the debate at Centre University in Danville.
Ryan spent three and a half days last week in Virginia doing debate prep, and prior to that three other sessions.
“Joe Biden is as experienced a debater as anyone in national politics, and he has a deep resume in domestic policy and foreign affairs," said Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck. "This is Congressman Ryan’s first time on this big stage, so we’re taking preparation seriously. After the President’s performance last week, we know Joe Biden will coming at us like a cannonball.”
